Monsey, NY - Wind, rain causing downed trees, outages, parkway problems

Monsey, NY - A January thaw that has temperatures in the 50s today already is causing headaches for drivers and homeowners alike.

Heavy rains and rising winds are causing trees to topple onto roadways and reports of power outages.

A tree down on Ingham Road has cut power to Todd Elementary School in Briarcliff. Children are being dismissed at 11:15 a.m. today. People seeking information are asked to call 914-941-8880.

Branches were reported blocking roads or causing road problems in Mount Kisco, New Castle, Yorktown, Kent, Dobbs Fairy, Irvington, Mamaroneck Village, Ossining, Pelham Manor and Kent. Pleasantville police reported a tree branch fell onto a parked car, causing damage to the roof and windshield.

Hasting-on-Hudson police reported a tree down on Fairmount Avenue; Pound Ridge had wires down on the road, closing part of Woodlands Road and Lower Shad Road by Kendall. Tarrytown police reported wires down on Grove Street near Elizabeth. Consolidated Edison was at the scene at 10:30 a.m.

Here are some of the other problems reported this morning from the weather:

Bronx River Parkway: Ponding, but not flooded, southbound at Palmer Road.

Hutchinson River Parkway: Tree down northbound at Mamaroneck Road.

Saw Mill River Parkway: Tree down northbound north of Exit 37, Kisco Avenue, Mount Kisco.

Route 116, North Salem: As of about 9:15 a.m., police were reporting a tree down on north Route 116 between Route 121 and Keeler Lane. Both lanes — one in either direction — were closed. Drivers were asked to find alternate routes.

Consolidated Edison was reporting scattered outages around Briarcliff Manor, north of Ossining and between Port Chester and Harrison, but early reports show only a handful of customers without power in those locations.

Kol Mevaser reports: Few blocks on Monsey Blvd are without power, as result of a huge tree that fell on electric wire.
