Nearly 40,000 Still Without Power In NJ

Residents in central and southern New Jersey are still digging out from Saturday's monster blizzard.

They better hurry though because another blizzard is on its way!

Having spent the weekend on the receiving end of the brutal snowstorm that paralyzed most of the mid-Atlantic region, homeowners like Phil and Pat Brunner are now trying to finish cleaning up before the next forecasted storm hits mid-week.

That means the clock is ticking to plow the main streets and side streets.

Not to mention restoring power to thousands of residents who are still in the dark. While Con Edison crews from New York City spent much of Sunday on the west side of the Hudson River assisting in that effort, Governor Chris Christie says several towns may still need more help.

"It's a pretty extraordinary hit for this region to take. I think by Tuesday or Wednesday this week we'll be in a position to make a judgment about declaring a state of emergency and making the applications necessary," said Christie on Sunday.

Meanwhile, some 40,000 electric customers on the New Jersey coast remain without power Monday.

Atlantic City Electric spokeswoman Sandra May says that as of 6:30 a.m. Monday, about 39,400 customers in Cape May County were without power. A few hundred more in Atlantic County haven't had their utilities restored.

May says crews are working around the clock.

At its worst, more than 90,000 homes and businesses in the state lost power Saturday.

May says that ice-covered limbs are still knocking power out in some places, even as crews restore it elsewhere.
