Rent-A-Husband Ad Hit in Croatia

An unemployed Croatian's decision to rent himself out after being fired from his job has proven profitable.

While his "rent-a-husband" ad is a hit, a business with a similar name in the United States has not drawn such positive attention.

The Croatian Times reports that Igor Radinovic, 43, decided to run a "rent-a-husband" ad after he was fired as a carpenter. He started a Web site to advertise his business as job offers from single moms, divorced women and women who lack time or a man to help with repairs keep the jobs piling up.

Radinovic credits his ex-wife, who is now a friend, for suggesting the idea of hiring himself out. He fixes broken pipes, moves furniture, carries groceries, walks pets and "drinks coffee with lonely elderly ladies," according to the Times.

He charges 120 kuna (or $22) for the first hour and 70 kuna for each subsequent hour.

One client, Marica Deris, said he made her laugh and suggested that she would recommend him to all "single ladies."

USA Today reports on a different fate for Kaile Warren, founder of the Rent-A-Husband home repair chain in the United States. According to the newspaper, Warren faces three felony charges including securities fraud and theft by deception for misleading more than 50 investors in his insolvent company.

Warren has denied that he misled investors. The indictment against him charges that he misled investors up to January that his company was worth between $7 million and $18 million and that it was close to expanding through a deal pending with Ace Hardware.

He had previously served as a home repair contributor to the CBS "Early Show" and was a frequent guest on national television programs, including "The Oprah Winfrey Show."
