Israel - Disgruntled man tries to rat out ex-wife to Iran

Revenge is a dish best served cold, goes the saying, and vindictive chefs can be surprisingly patient. Recently, an Israeli man in his 60s took this creative cooking to the next level when he tried to rat out his ex-wife of 15 years and her family to Iranian authorities.

According to the Hebrew daily Yediot Aharonot, a month and a half ago, the man faxed a letter to the Iranian consulate in Istanbul with details about his ex-wife and her family living in Turkey, claiming that they were Mossad agents working against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's government. A few days later, he tried to fax the same letter to the Iranian Embassy in Ankara. It didn't go through, so he resent it to the consulate again.

The gag-order imposed on the affair was partially lifted two weeks after a petition by the paper's reporters but the names of those involved haven't been published. The Hebrew reports said the man is being indicted but authorities have yet to decide what charge to file.

Presumably, the Iranians didn't pick up the phone to the Mossad to follow up. So how did Israeli authorities get on to the guy? Well, let's see. He sent the letters from his home fax. Duh.

Index for a million documents on Polish Jewry to go online

A lot of the bread in the US will no longer be kosher

The largest baking company in the United States will be removing kosher certification from nearly all of its bread and rolls. Bimbo Bakeries USA confirmed to JTA that it will be removing the certification. The company produces brands including Arnold, Sara Lee, Stroehmann, Freihofer’s and others. Two of its major brands, Entenmann’s and Thomas, will remain certified kosher. So, kosher eaters, your crumb doughnuts and English muffins are still safe. A couple of rye breads also will retain their certifications. “Removing the kosher certification from some of our products was strictly a business-process decision to enable more efficient operations, and it was one we did not make lightly,” Bimbo said in a statement. “Thomas’ and Entenmann’s products as well as Arnold’s and Levy’s Rye Breads will remain kosher-certified.
