New Jersey - Girl, 12, left alone a week

A woman who allegedly left her 12-year-old daughter home alone for nearly a week while she traveled cross-country to marry her boyfriend has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, authorities said.

Sarah Haines, 31, is accused of leaving her daughter alone from June 3 until Wednesday, when Mount Olive police received a request from the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services to check on the girl, authorities said.

The girl told police her mother left her $10 and plenty of food and drinks. She said a friend of her mother's had been checking in on her to ensure she was OK, police said.
