New York - Laptops, Phones Stolen From Police Headquarters

New York - A man is under arrest for entering the New York Police Department's highly secured headquarters and stealing laptops and mobile phones.

Police say Jermaine Sweet, 30, entered One Police Plaza shortly before noon Tuesday. They say he stole two laptops and seven phones, believed to be BlackBerry smart phones.

An anonymous source tells MyFoxNY.com that the thief gained access by stating that he was there to retrieve his personal belongings from the property clerk's office.

Sweet apparently snuck onto an elevator and made it to the floor that contains the Police Commissioner's office.  That was the floor where the theft occurred.

He made it out of the building undetected  but was apprehended after he decided to stop for a cigarette in the plaza outside of the building.

Sweet, whose address is listed in Brooklyn, faces burglary charges.
