Wife Gets Chocolate-Covered iPad for Birthday

Apple fan Kay Chung got a very sweet birthday present – an iPad wrapped in chocolate.

Stefan Magdalinski wanted to surprise his wife with the hot new Apple gadget; however, the couple lives in South Africa where iPads are not available. Magdalinski also wanted to add an extra special touch. So, this highly inventive husband asked a chocolatier pal in London to freeze the iPad in the sweet stuff and ship it to South Africa.

Magdalinski blogged about the experience on his site Ahead Robot . The project began with contacting Paul A. Young, owner of the fancy chocolate shop that bears his name.

Young wrapped the iPad in plastic and freezed chocolate carbonite around it. The process took about 2 hours .

The next step was sending it nearly 6,000 miles to Cape Town, past customs agents and to the unsuspecting Chung. The self-described "Apple nut" unwrapped what she thought was a four-and-a-half pound block of chocolate. An embedded ribbon helped her pull off the layers of candy to find an even more delicious iPad.

The surprise – and iPad – worked. Magdalinski's blog includes photos of his wife unwrapping her present.

The story has exploded on tech sites such as Engadget.com , Mashable.com and Gizmodo.com where readers tend to think of computer bytes before chocolate bites.

In case you were wondering, Chung did not bite into the chocolate before finding the iPad.

Chocolatier Young has been flooded with requests to wrap other tech items in chocolate, according to The London Evening Standard.
