Monticello project gets major state financial boost

Monticello - An entertainment center proposed for 426 to 470 Broadway in the Village of Monticello got a major boost Thursday as the state’s Empire State Development Corporation approved a $1.7 million Restore New York Round III grant for it.

The total project, to be developed by part-time Sullivan County resident Tommy Ting, is $2.4 million.

Mayor Gordon Jenkins said the facility, which will be modeled after the Bitter End Café in New York City, could draw from the entire Catskills and Hudson Valley region and be a major economic shot in the arm for Monticello.

With the reconstruction of Broadway and projects like this one, the downtown area will see a rebirth, he said.

The state grant is subject to final approval of the state budget.
