New York - Livery Cab Drivers To Receive Bulletproof Vests
New York - The Federation of Taxi Drivers and city officials will hand out bullet proof vests today to livery cab drivers in the South Bronx, and parts of Queens and Brooklyn, in an effort to keep drivers safe.
They are the same vests worn by police officers, but without the metal shock plates that can make driving uncomfortable.
Shooting and robberies have long plagued the livery cab industry.
The vest pilot program comes on the heels of the shooting of driver Trevor Bell -- who was attacked after picking up a passenger in Queens earlier this month.
