Surgery in New Jersey Tweeted in Real-Time

Raritan Bay Medical Center in New Jersey performed a routine surgery Friday with a special twist: Details about the operation were tweeted in real-time.

Dr. Jonathan Pine, an orthopedic surgeon, performed a knee surgery, while St. Joseph High School student Chirag Patel watched from the surgical suites. Patel tweeted about the surgical procedure to his fellow Medical Club students in the high school's computer lab, the hospital said.

Patel participated in RBMC's week-long, annual Healthcare Connection program this past spring. The program allows local high school students interested in pursuing a medical career to shadow clinicians at the medical center.
