Matt Green Attempts To Walk Every NYC Street

Two years ago, Matt Green was an engineer sitting behind a desk.

“That just wasn’t doing it for me,” he said.

So he went for a walk – from Rockaway Beach, Queens to Rockaway Beach, Oregon – over the course of about five months.

Green is now walking every block of every street in the five boroughs of New York City.

“I’ve already seen a lot of the city. Why not try to see it all?” he said to WCBS 880 reporter Alex Silverman. “For my purposes, I’m not going to be walking on the FDR and the Cross Bronx.”

Green says there are between 6,000 to 6,400 miles of street to walk, double his journey across the country.

He’ll be out five or six days a week.

“It’s just kind of an exercise in finding out what there is to appreciate, little conversations you hear on the street,” he said.

He’ll be sleeping on friends’ couches, living off his savings, and even some donations.

“I think it will take a minimum of two years,” he said.
