13-year-old Oregon boy finds grenade in his bedroom

Scary moments for a boy and his family late Sunday afternoon when the 13-year-old discovered a grenade in the ceiling space of his bedroom.

Portland bomb squad technicians responded to the home in the 2100 block of Sparrow Street at 4:52 p.m. Sunday, and closed portions of the street.

Austin Reamer's bedroom is located in the basement of the house.  Once he found the grenade between the rafters, he told his father, who called 911.

As it turned out, the device was a modified military grenade.  The bomb squad took it away to be disposed.

Possession of a destructive device is a class "C" felony.  Milwaukie police are investigating how the grenade wound up in the home in the first place.
