50th Anniversary of Rabbi Arthur Schneier’s leadership


One of New York’s most prominent rabbis celebrated a major milestone Sunday.

Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Isreali ambassador Ido Aharoni and other religious and political leaders came to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Rabbi Arthur Schneier as spiritual leader of the Park East Synagogue on East 67th Street.

Rabbi Schneier hosted Pope Benedict XVI which was the first visit by a Pope to an American synagogue.
President Clinton awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal to Rabbi Schneier in 2008.

Rabbi Schneier is known for his work building bridges between faith communities and being a strong advocate for human rights and religious freedom.
