Bloomberg: Surveillance Complaints From NJ ‘Ridiculous’

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says New Jersey officials’ complaints about NYPD surveillance of Muslim groups are “ridiculous.”

He was responding to criticism from New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Newark Mayor Cory Booker over the NYPD’s tactics.

Bloomberg said Friday on his weekly appearance on WOR Radio that it’s “a bit ridiculous” to say “the NYPD should stop at the border.”

“The truth of the matter is what we’ve been doing in New Jersey is what anybody in this country, in the world can do. You can go to open meetings, you can go on open websites and look and see what’s there and that’s really all we’ve been doing,” he said. “We have a responsibility to do that and we share the information with New Jersey.”

Bloomberg went on to say that the NYPD is “recognized by all professionals as the finest police department in the world.”
