Israel - New digital speed cameras begin issuing tickets

New digital speed cameras spread across Israel's highways began issuing tickets on Sunday, after a month-long dry run. The Israel Police is keeping its ambiguity about the speed at which the fines will kick in, or if it will offset the threshold depending on the number of tickets issued.

"I cannot say at what speed we will begin enforcement," National Traffic Police director Commander Meir Or told Army Radio on Monday. "It is quite possible that we'll enforce different speeds at two different sections of a road."

Last month, the Traffic Police conducted a pilot of the new speed cameras. 1,000 warnings were sent to drivers for speeding, and 250 warnings for running a red light.
