New York - State Raises Dollar Amount On Clothing Tax Reprieve
New Yorkers looking to update their wardrobe for spring
are in luck.
Starting Sunday, the state is raising its tax exemption
for clothing and shoe purchases from $55 to $110.
Any purchase under $110 won't be hit with the state sales
tax of four percent or the MTA tax of .375 percent.
Clothing and shoe purchases up to $110 are already exempt
from the city's local 4.5 percent sales tax.
That means on a $100 purchase, there would be a savings
of $8.88.
The state tax holiday will run for one year.
