Port Authority Continues Lawsuits Against Top Toll Violators

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey continues to take an aggressive stance against toll cheats.

The agency has filed another 14 lawsuits against what it calls its most egregious toll violators. That brings the total number of suits to 33 since February when the agency announced its “Wall of Shame”, a list posted online with the names of the 37 worst violators who failed to pay between $7,000 and $166,000 in tolls.

The Port Authority says those violators owe between $30,000 and $1.78 million each. The list includes both commercial drivers and individual commuters.

Port Authority police have also arrested 13 toll violators and issued 24 summonses.

“The Port Authority is owed staggering sums of money by these toll violators, and we intend to collect every dime,” Deputy Executive Director Bill Baroni said in a statement.

In a statement, executive director Pat Foye says the Port Authority will use every resource necessary to collect the money.
