Air Travel Pre-Check Hits 2 Million Mark

More than two million people have been screened through TSA’s Pre Check program, said the agency on July 27.

The program is available to U.S. citizens traveling domestically, who are members of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Trusted Traveler programs and frequent travelers with participating airlines at many of the busiest airports across the country.

"As TSA Pre Check continues to expand to additional airports and passenger populations, we are seeing exponential growth in participation," said TSA Administrator John Pistole in a statement on July 27. "We are on track to bring TSA Pre Check to 35 airports by the end of 2012 and even more next year."

The program is currently available at 19 airports and operational with five airlines, including Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and US Airways.

Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport began the program on July 24 and Pre Check operations were expanded at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to include United Airlines in the facility’s Terminal 7.

Under the program, passengers volunteer personal information before traveling that expedites their passage through TSA airport checkpoints.

Eligible passengers include U.S. citizens of frequent traveler programs on participating airlines and current members of CBP Trusted Traveler programs, including Global Entry, SENTRI and NEXUS.
