Jack Lew to address New York Jewish group
White House chief-of-staff Jack Lew, an Orthodox Jew
who's the highest-profile Jew in the Obama administration, is set to address
the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York today, sources
confirmed to POLITICO.
The meetings, which will include a range of Jewish
leaders from across the religious spectrum, has been in the planning stages for
awhile, but happens to fall on the second day of Mitt Romney's trip to Israel,
one source said.
An administration official confirmed the trip to the
JCRC, a group whose board Lew sat on in the early 2000s.
Still, it gives the White House some degree of
counter-programming, albeit with a closed-door meeting, as Romney is in Israel,
where he has made a high profile visit with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
