New York City Looks To Wean Hospitals Off Baby Formula
The city is reportedly ramping up an effort to get more
mothers to breast feed.
The New York Post reports beginning in September, the
city will start checking how many bottles are being used at certain hospitals.
Many will also begin documenting medical reasons when
infants are bottle-fed.
As part of the Health Department's Latch On NYC
initiative, the Post says hospitals will keep baby formula locked-up.
Mothers will not be denied synthetic formula, but will be
told why breast feeding is beneficial and in many cases preferred.
Under the program, the paper says almost three-quarters
of the city's hospitals will also get rid of formula-branded items like
lanyards, mugs, and bags.
