Crime-Fighting Smartphone App Unveiled To The Public

There’s a new way to fight crime, right from your smartphone.

New York State Senator Eric Adams announced a new application that can send reports about crime and dangerous conditions right to the authorities.

“[Some] simple device that we thought could only be used to make calls could now be used to save lives,” Adams told reporters, including WCBS 880’s Jim Smith, on Sunday.

Adams likened the app to having a community watch group right on your cell phone.

“We’re bringing crime-fighting into the app age,” Adams said.

The Brooklyn Quality Of Life app allows users to send photos, audio or video to officials. Retired detectives staff the application, who can then forward the information on to police.

“We are going to be the middle reporting aspect to make sure that their identity will remain unknown,” Adams said.

Adams said the app is not meant to be a replacement for 911, but rather an outlet for the “many people who are afraid or intimidated,” by police, Adams said.

The app is available for the iPhone, Android devices and tablets.

A lot of the bread in the US will no longer be kosher

The largest baking company in the United States will be removing kosher certification from nearly all of its bread and rolls. Bimbo Bakeries USA confirmed to JTA that it will be removing the certification. The company produces brands including Arnold, Sara Lee, Stroehmann, Freihofer’s and others. Two of its major brands, Entenmann’s and Thomas, will remain certified kosher. So, kosher eaters, your crumb doughnuts and English muffins are still safe. A couple of rye breads also will retain their certifications. “Removing the kosher certification from some of our products was strictly a business-process decision to enable more efficient operations, and it was one we did not make lightly,” Bimbo said in a statement. “Thomas’ and Entenmann’s products as well as Arnold’s and Levy’s Rye Breads will remain kosher-certified.
