Israel - 18% Haredi students by 2017

Within the next five years haredi and Arab students will make up 44% of Israel's education system, data published by the Central Bureau of Statistics on Monday revealed.

In five years the ratio of State education will be 41% compared to 52% in 2001. The number of students in haredi educational institutions will be 18% compared with 12% and the number of students in Arab educational institutions will be 26% compared with 22%.

There is no change in the number of students studying in the State's national religious educational institutions.

From 2001-2017 the haredi education system grew by 91% (average annual growth rate of 5.7%), the Arab education system grew by 55% (average annual growth of 3.4%) national religious education system grew by 25% (average annual growth of 1.6%) while the regular State education system grew by only 2% (average annual growth of just 0.1%).

The total number of students in the education system is expected to grow from 1.579 million students in 2013 to 1.695 million students in 2017, an accumulated increase of 7.3% and an annual growth rate of 1.83%.

The largest growth rate was in the number of haredi students. The number of students in the haredi education system will grow from 270,000 in 2013 to 310,000 students in 2017 (annual growth rate of 3.7%).

The number of students in the Arab education system will grow from 422,000 students in 2013 to 448,000 students in 2017 (annual growth rate of 1.5%).
  
The State education system will see the number of students grow from 670,000 in 2013 to 699,000 in 2017 (annual growth rate of 1.1%). The number of students in the State national religious schools will grow from 216,000 in 2013 to 238,000 in 2017 (annual growth rate of 2.5%).
