Mosquito Spraying Slated for Parts of Eastern L.I.
Suffolk County health officials say ground spraying to
control adult mosquito populations will be done on parts of Fire Island, East
Hampton and Mount Sinai.
The pesticide applications are to control mosquitoes
which can spread the West Nile virus through their bites.
Spraying of the pesticide anvil is scheduled for Tuesday
on various streets, campgrounds, golf courses and recreation areas.
Newsday reports that officials say chances of
experiencing medical problems from the spraying are low. However, residents may
want to avoid exposure, particularly children and pregnant women, who are
advised to stay inside during the treatment and for 30 minutes after it ends.
