Quinn Wants City To Ease Up On Restaurant Grading Fines

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn reportedly is looking to lower the fines city restaurants get for health violations.

The Daily News says Quinn is pushing a bill that would make changes to the city's restaurant-grading system.

Sources tell the paper the changes could include easing penalties for violations that don't involve food and waiving fines for restaurants that appeal their grade and later get an A.

If it passes the Council, the bill would need Mayor Michael Bloomberg's approval, but that's far from a sure thing.

The News says the city is on pace to pull in $48 million in fines this fiscal year -- and the bill could cut into the revenue.
