Arab youth tries to knife Jewish man in Jerusalem

An Arab youth tried to stab an ultra-Orthodox Jewish man in Jerusalem on Monday, but the victim managed to escape without injury.

The incident happened on the corner of Haim Bar-Lev and Haneviim streets in the capital, close to the Old City.

After the attack, the alleged assailant, a resident of the West Bank, attempted to escape on foot but was promptly apprehended by police near Sultan Suleiman Street in East Jerusalem and detained for questioning. Police believe the attacker was spurred by nationalistic motives.

The quickest route by foot from the Western Wall to a major hub of ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods in Jerusalem is via the Damascus Gate of the Old City and from there north to Haneviim. The area has been the site of attacks by Arabs on Jews, as well by Jews against Arabs, throughout the years.
