Ocean Parkway in Kensington named deadliest Brooklyn road for pedestrians

Ocean Parkway in Kensington has been named the deadliest road for pedestrians in the borough.

According to a new study from the Tri-State Transportation Campaign, Brooklyn has some of the most dangerous streets in the tri-state area, with 132 pedestrian fatalities reported from 2009 to 2011. Six of those deaths happened on Ocean Parkway.

Second on the list is Eastern Parkway, which had five deaths in the same three-year period. Tied for third is Kings Highway, Utica Avenue and Bedford Avenue, which all saw four deaths.

The watchdog transportation group says the fatalities could have been prevented with proper road improvements and increased traffic enforcement. It did, however, commend the state's Department of Transportation for making substantial improvements to deadly roadways last year.
