Video: Runaway Goat Cornered In Brooklyn Parking Lot

A runaway goat was cornered in the parking lot of Brooklyn Interfaith Medical Center early Thursday.

“I was just walking across the street to get some Popeye’s, I come around the corner and the next thing I know I see a goat coming around my way, galloping toward me,” said a witness.

The goat made his escape in the wee hours of the morning. An officer on patrol spotted him galloping down Atlantic Avenue wreaking havoc, and called for backup, reported WLNY’s Amy Dardashtian.

“Banging his head against two doors, to no avail, then it started running ’cause the cops were after it,” a witness said.



Half a dozen officers gave chase, catching up with the escaped goat about a mile away on Herkimer Street, where  it refused to surrender. It turns out though that a parking lot attendant from West Africa who was at the scene was a goat herder in his native country.

“I told them ‘Do not harm the animal, it’s an easy animal, it’s very friendly but it just was a little scared,’” Seydou Ndiaye explained. Ndiaye took a rope and formed a lasso, but the goat blew by him.

A little while later, the animal was caught by the horns. It was tied up and loaded into the back of a police car.


It’s not the first time a wild animal has sent cops on a chase.

In November, Casper the horse and Razzi the zebra decided they didn’t like the petting zoo on Staten Island and made a run for it.

It’s not clear where the goat came from, but it did have a tag in its ear. It may have been escaping a slaughterhouse, Dardashtian reported. If that is the case, it succeeded – the goat is now safe with the ASPCA.

A lot of the bread in the US will no longer be kosher

The largest baking company in the United States will be removing kosher certification from nearly all of its bread and rolls. Bimbo Bakeries USA confirmed to JTA that it will be removing the certification. The company produces brands including Arnold, Sara Lee, Stroehmann, Freihofer’s and others. Two of its major brands, Entenmann’s and Thomas, will remain certified kosher. So, kosher eaters, your crumb doughnuts and English muffins are still safe. A couple of rye breads also will retain their certifications. “Removing the kosher certification from some of our products was strictly a business-process decision to enable more efficient operations, and it was one we did not make lightly,” Bimbo said in a statement. “Thomas’ and Entenmann’s products as well as Arnold’s and Levy’s Rye Breads will remain kosher-certified.
