Swedish neo-Nazi to be extradited to Poland

Former Swedish neo-Nazi Anders Hogstrom will be extradited to Poland on Friday, in connection with the theft of the Arbeit Macht Frei sign over the Auschwitz Gate 1 last December.

The 34 year-old Hogstrom was arrested in mid-February and Poland was granted extradition on April 1. Sweden has ten days to comply with the order.

Police in Krakow want to interview the man suspected of ordering the theft carried out by five Poles, who cut the infamous sign into three pieces and stashed it in a wood near Torun.

Hogstrom – who set up a neo-Nazi party in Sweden in 1994 – has told media that he was merely an intermediary, possibly for a Nazi memorabilia collector in the UK.

Three of the Poles involved in the theft have already been given prison sentences of up to 30 months after they admitted taking part in the crime. Two others are still in custody.

Minor earthquake rattles Los Angeles

Seismologists say a mild earthquake widely felt throughout Southern California was centered along the coast west of downtown Los Angeles. The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude-3.8 quake struck at 3:18 a.m. Wednesday. The epicenter was 2 miles east-southeast of Marina del Rey near Culver City and Inglewood.
