Bulgarian Mobile Number Suspended After Every User Assigned to it Dies
Worried mobile phone bosses in Bulgaria have shelved the number 0888 888 888 because everyone who has had it the past 10 years has died in horrific circumstances, Britain's The Daily Mail reported Tuesday.
The doomed digits were first assigned to Vladimir Grashnov -- the former chief executive of Bulgarian mobile phone company, Mobitel. He died of cancer in 2001 aged just 48.
Bulgarian mafia boss Konstantin Dimitrov was the next person to have the jinxed number. He had his phone in his pocket when he was gunned down two years later while dining at a restaurant in the Netherlands.
Mobitel assigned the number to crooked businessman Konstantin Dishliev, who was subsequently shot dead in 2005.
Cops believe he was part of a Colombian drug-smuggling ring. They kept the line dormant while they investigated further, the Mail reported.
It's now believed to be eligible for use again -- but Mobitel bosses have reportedly axed the number, which is reached from an international line by dialing +359 888 888 888, for good.
Callers now get a recorded message revealing the phone is "outside network coverage."
