New York - Jury selection begins next month for trial of accused Riverdale bomb plotters
Jury selection is set to begin next month for the trial of four alleged homegrown terrorists charged in a plot to bomb two Riverdale synagogues and shoot down military aircraft upstate.
Potential panelists will fill out questionnaires on Aug. 17, with opening statements to begin 10 minutes after the jury is seated the following week, Manhattan federal Judge Colleen McMahon ordered.
Last month, McMahon put the trial on hold after blasting prosecutors for improperly withholding evidence from the defense and ordering them to search for other documents that might also have to be turned over.
McMahon — who recently said the trial must start by Sept. 3 under "speedy trial" rules — yesterday said prosecutors "should keep the court and defense counsel apprised of any developments that would affect the schedule in this order."
